Trigg County Agriculture Committee will host its eighth annual Ag Appreciation Banquet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 14 at the Trigg Recreation Complex.
This year's event will feature keynote speaker Dave Maples, director of the Kentucky Cattlemen's Association. Maples will discuss the impact of beef cattle in the state.
Ag committee member Alan Watts said he felt Maples would provide a little different perspective on agricultural operations in the state.
In addition, Watts said hosting Maples would complement the successes of the county's own cattlemen.
"The beef cattle industry's pretty big, and we've never really done much to focus on the cattle industry at the ag appreciation dinner," Watts said.
"So we were thinking about different speakers, and of course Raymon Oliver here locally was put into the cattlemen's hall of fame last year, so we thought we would let him come down and talk about the cattle industry in Kentucky, in Trigg County and also how they're using the new checkoff dollars. â ¦ Ought to be something different."
The committee will also present its annual awards for outstanding youth in agriculture, friend of agriculture and agri-business of the year.
Participants are encouraged to bring canned goods, which will go to benefit Helping Hands Food Pantry.
