The Pennyrile District Health Department (PDHD) is holding the inaugural Pennyrile Spring Cross Country Challenge Season.
This is a five-race season with races taking place from April to August in Trigg, Lyon, Caldwell, Crittenden and Livingston counties. The purpose of this race is to encourage all ages to become physically active through walking and running. PDHD is encouraging all schools, adults and local community to come out to show support to living a healthier life.
Staff also encourages residents to come out and challenge friends and neighbors to see who is the fastest across the Pennyrile Region.
During each month of the season a race day will be held in each county that makes up the Pennyrile District Health Department area. The race distances will be 1 kilometer, 2.5 kilometer, and 5 kilometers. There are age divisions for each race, with some restrictions on entry to the longer races for the younger ages. For nearly all of the races medals will be presented to the first-, second- and third-place winner in each age and gender division. For those races where medals are not presented, runners/walkers will be presented a bracelet. At the end of the season the top three runners for each age category will receive an award as the season champions.
Early registration is encouraged. Applications are available from the Pennyrile District Health Department Facebook Page, at each of the local health departments and throughout many of the schools and businesses. There is no penalty for race day registration, however shirts may not be available.
Each individual race registration is $20, or participants can register for the season and pay only $75. Registration will include a shirt, if met by the deadline. Registration for the entire season will allow participants to receive a season shirt and each of the five race shirts. Race day registration may allow for shirts to be given out on a first come basis. If runners want to race all season, they may substitute one non-season race for a fee of $10 for a maximum of three substitutions.
All money raised will go to support the Community Outreach Health and Wellness Programs of the Pennyrile District Health Department.
Individuals or businesses looking to volunteer or sponsor this event should contact the district office for additional information.
PDHD will recognize support in different ways depending on level of support. The lowest level of sponsorship is recognition on race day in announcements and through media releases. This sponsorship is through a commitment to provide medical support, volunteers to work on race day, helping monitor the course, register runners and work the finish line.
The next level of support allows up to recognize organizations on our course signs. To be included, PDHD asks for a donation of fruit, bottled water, ice or cups equivalent to $250 or a monetary donation of $250.
For those who would like to be mentioned on the PDHD race banner, which will be located at the start/finish line, and be mentioned on one (1) course sign, staff asks for a sponsorship of $350.
Finally, those choosing to donate more than $400 will receive a space on the back of our Race and Event Shirts, on the race banner, and on the applications. There will be a limit to 10 sponsors for T-shirts in order to make your logo large enough to be recognized, so interested parties are encouraged to respond quickly.
All sponsors will have the opportunity to set up an information booth at our races in order to advertise their organizations products and services. We are encouraging healthy living, so all associations with this goal are encouraged to participate.
