The outcome of the Lady Lyons and Lady Wildcats first match of the postseason ended nearly identical to their final meeting during the during season. On that game Jan. 31, Allison Murphy led the way offensively with 14 points and 16 rebounds as Lyon County won 42-26.
On Monday in the opening round of the Fifth District tournament, Murphy scored 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as Lyon County won 45-23.
Lyon County got ahead early, leading 18-12 at the break. They outscored tournament host Trigg County 27-11 through the second half of the contest.
For the night, Hannah Holloman and Jenna White notched two 3-point baskets apiece and combined for 15 points, while Murphy added one.
Alli Ellis and Terrianna Johnson notched six points each, while Taylyn Sutton scored four and Rose Smith had a point.
Rylee Bush, Lauren Oliver and Katelyn Stone led Trigg County with four points apeice.
With the win, Lyon County advances to the final round to face Crittenden County Thursday for the title at 7 p.m. in Trigg County. The Lady Wildcats fell to 6-20 to close out their season. They were 0-7 in Fifth District play.
In boys action, the Lyons and Wildcats were slated to open the tournament Tuesday night in Cadiz. Livingston Central and Crittenden County will play in the other half of the bracket. The winner of those games will face off Friday at 7 p.m. in Trigg County.
